enjoy each day, don’t try to rush it along. Even at work, don’t wish for 5:00 or Friday. Time is passing by fast enough. Take a daily photo, jot down a couple of things that happen that day. We forget the little things, but they’re the things that make up our life.
I’m loving this quote … “Don't wait around for other people to be happy for you. Any happiness you get you've got to make yourself.” – Alice Walker … get out and make some happiness!

a little new year hiking to start the year off right

at the end of january, we actually got snow. And a good amount of snow. Probably not enough for snow shoes, but what the hell, we put them on and ran

a little more hiking

dressed as prom queen and king for a madri gras party. When else do you get to wear a prom dress? I think I’m going to do this every year

sported a lovely side pony. No laughing, you wish you were this cool. Well, maybe not!

since we were unable to go snowboarding this year, we decided to use our birthdays as an excuse to visit San Diego. I think we need to visit there yearly in order to stay sane. I conspired with Southwest (love them!) to surprise Mike for his 40th birthday. I thought they would just sing, but they made him a very cool peanut crown

and as soon as the plane landed and we got our car, off to Rubio’s for some good eats. Burritos! You’ll notice the happiness on our faces. H E A V E N ! ! !

then we celebrated m’s 40th at Extraordinary Desserts in Hilcrest. We lived in Hilcrest and always wanted to stop here, but between the price and the line of people always there we never did. But it was yummy! And a perfect way to celebrate m’s birthday

an now some hiking to burn off all those cake calories. There are rattlesnake signs all over, but we have never seen any.

It had actually been raining in SD, which is slightly rare, but was great for the waterfall. There was actually water. And mud. As you can tell by the bottom of my shoes

The next couple of days we feel into a fantasy routine. Up in the morning to hike in Torrey Pines and on the beach, then off to eat.

Love this photo – looks like an old shot from the 70s

We parked in the furthest parking space way over to the right and hiked up this hill, then around on top, then back down to the ocean

love it!

some rock zen

form could be better. Got to keep practicing

kissey kissey

k catching a wave in a cave in the side of the cliffs

Torrey Pines Golf Course. You can’t even see the chain linked fence that we are behind. Please! Trying to keep the riff-raff out

WTF? So we decided to walk down the beach for a while and apparently we walked into nudity beach. Guess what you see there? Yep! a nude person. So when we see this guy we decide to turn around and walk briskly back in the other direction. He apparently was walking briskly too, because we couldn’t lose him. The rocks are the borderline between the clothed and unclothed. Sorry for pic – I have others and can I just say that this man is blessed and the cold does not bother him!

I think that is actually a guy in his pink getup. We took this pic in the middle of a workday … get to work biker!

I keep hearing about these JuJuBes things, but I never have had them. We stopped for something and I saw them, thought I would try them out.

Yeah, I’m gonna pass on them. They don’t really taste and they stick to your teeth!

Ahhhhh, we’re home. I mean at Rubios. Our favorite eatery. We’ve been known to plan vacations around Rubio locations. And to bring home many frozen burritos

never a problem cleaning our plates!

One night we met up with our friend Dody. She taught a sunset/evening outdoor yoga class so we decided to drop in. It was great – I wished we were still there and could do it weekly. Afterwards, we had dinner with her and her husband. It was great to catch up.
a visit to our old home, Hilcrest. We loved it there. Walking distance to shops and eateries, Balboa Park, the SD Zoo, and downtown. It’s also the gay district, which was great. No kids, but plenty of doggies for Daisy to meet.

what? Am I in shoe heaven?

maybe, it’s getting closer

yes, I am!

if only m+ i could be this hip and cool. Ride ‘em cowboy!

never know what you’ll find at the local CVS … a Prius and a Porsche!

no excuse needed to stop for coffee and a pistachio cupcake

only in the gay area will Ace Hardware be so cool. What a fabulous duster display!

that little orange head is going to get bitch slapped by a lesbian. She betta watch out!

sorry! I had to do it

depends on the mood! Or the number of people in play!

dinner at Pizza Nova. Got to start with the yummy warm garlic knots follwed by wood fired shrimp pizza

wanted to stop at in-n-out for a shakes and some fries, but the line was waaaaayyyyy to long. Next time

hung out in Pacific Beach for a bit. Nice ride. Love those tires!

PB looks cool with all those storm clouds

This is what the boardwalk normally looks like. Some walkers, a biker

But sometimes you see a man in a robe standing on a post talking on a cell waving to someone. One of the reasons I love it out there, basically no one gives a shit. As long as you aren’t hurting anyone, do what you need to do…

yes! That is me surfing! Well, not really. But in my mind I am kicking it!

mike secretly wants to be a vampire!

now down to Ocean Beach

m taking a break and contemplating life

gas isn’t much more expensive than it is here

as soon as we can retire, we are heading to Cardiff. We love it

boards at patagonia

yes! That is more cake

Cardiff has this fantastic little grocery, where we got the carrot cake. So I’m walking around and kind of run into this guy. He goes left, I go left. He goes right, I go right. He makes a comment about us dancing and we laugh and chat for a couple of minutes. So I get outside and find m and am telling him that I think this guy was flirting with me. I’m all excited because this rarely happens. M starts to laugh and takes a photo of me. LOOK at my hair. This guys was talking to me because he thought I was “special”! bummer! I thought I was getting hit on.

Poppies don’t even look real

And here is where we will be staying when we come back. State park right on the beach cliffs. How much ,ore can you ask for. I am counting down the days (well, maybe years)

we decided for my birthday that we would drive up to Newport to visit Sprinkles. Saw this in Newport - I think I would look fantastic driving a Bentley.

love Sprinkles!

yes! We got four!

started with vanilla cake and choco icing

followed by a red velvet

and then choco on choco

urg. I don’t feel so well! Seriously, we did not eat all those cupcakes at one time. In one day, yes!

after the cupcake festival we walked thru the grocery store beside Sprinkles. Only in Newport, will you find this type of store. Absolutely wonderful. Look at the bread, the seafood, the fruits and veggies. I felt like I was in heaven. I almost teared up. Not only are there lots of healthy stuff, but look at the lines of all the products. It’s a Type A, OCD person’s dream. Not that I am either!

there’s even a wide selection of booze. I think m is actually drooling.

had to snap of shots of fancy cars

and to keep it real. An old school Prelude!

on the way back to SD, we stopped at Trader Joe’s and picked up something for lunch. Had to balance out all that sugar. We just stopped in a random neighborhood and walked down a path and here’s what we found. A fantastic little cove. It was great. We ate, hung out for a bit, walked on the rocks and looked at the sealife, watched some surfers. Then it was back to 101 to continue south. We actually got stuck on 101 for a while because 5 was shut down due a suspicous bomb looking package. I think we went about 15 miles in an hour and a half. That is when we finished up those cupcakes!

we flew home on Saturday night. When we got home we found out that Daisy has not be doing well during the time we were gone. Starting in early February, her back legs would sometimes stop working and she would be unable to get up. Alice had stayed with the crew and was waiting up for us. She said the Duda’s legs had almost stopped working entirely. So the next morning, February 28th, we drove to the mountains and helped Daisy move on to Doggie Heaven. She had been with us for 14 years and was such a big part of our lives. We miss her. This is a blurrey photo, but this is when we first got here. I found her on the side of a country road on the way home from college one night. She was about 4wks old; dirty and skinny. We tried to adopt her out, but after a couple of weeks we were in love!

about mid March, I decided to make a change. I cut off all of my hair!

At the end of March, we went up to the mountains to hike Mount Mitchell. It’s the highed peak east of the Mississippi.

We did it!

here’s where Seymour lives when we’re in the mountains. It’s a fantastic spot … it’s in the front yard of our friend’s house with a few of trees and the horse pasture

we just didn’t come up to go hiking, but to bring Bo to Daisy. We thought putting Daisy to sleep was tough, but Bo was tougher. He was 18 and had been in my life longer than Mike. There were many tears.

In April, m, Chica, Luke, and myself needed a getway and headed to DC for the Cherry Blossums. We had seen the blossums before, but never the parade. Enjoyed the big president heads and the hot air balloons.

I love the metro, but I almost vomit on that damn thing everytime!

Picture perfect!

Cherry blossums! One of the few. We had missed all the main ones along the water, but found a couple of late bloomers.

I bet you are wondering what are all these people in line for…

Cupcakes! What else! But we did walk all the way from the mall to Georgetown and back for them.

Dinner at the Tackle Box was quite tasty

the next day we from the mall to the National Cathedral and back. That was a hike!

and we saw a pretty bride

I think there’s a food theme going on! Yummy – Legal Sea Foods

Started with choco cherry breadpudding

And a beer

I don’t know why, but I love this. I’m starting to feel more like this lately. You got something negative to say? Well, f-you buddy I don’t what to hear it!

our home away from home. And if I can convince m, this will soon be our only home. I’m ready to sell everything and hit the road!

so in May, Luke decided he missed him brother. After being together for 18 years, I’m not sure I would want to live without my brother either. We took Luke up to the mountains to join Bo and Daisy. We lost three of our kids this year, it has been really tough. We miss them all.

I am confident that the boys are together and enjoying themselves whereever they are

we took off some time at Memorial Day to go back to the mountains to relax and hike. We went down to Asheville for a little walk around and visit

I wish I had the balls to pull off pink knee high sport socks and yellow sneaks. F-ing fantastic!

and a little hike down to Linville Gorge.

m rock climbing. Do not pay any attention to path below m’s feet. That is not the trail!

the trail’s a tight squeeze between the rhodos

finally the river. It was nice and quite down there

the next day, the hiking team – that’s alice, greg, mike, and myself – set off to hike up and over Woods Mountain. We Woods Mtn defeated us! We got lost, so after hiking about 5hrs we had to turn around and hike back to the car rather than hiking over the mountain. We will return to kick your Woodsy ass! Be prepared

anna and solo snuggling

haaaaayyyy! Whatca doing with that camera?

in june we started going to the lake. M found a FREE windsurfer on craigslist. After some retrofitting, we turned it into a stand up paddle board

that’s me out there!

sometimes you just need to stop and take a little siesta!

oldie frank sporting a canoe and paddle board! We got frank in 1999 and he’s got about 175k miles, but he’s going strong and we’re keeping him until he falls apart!

in july, went up to Hampton, Va to visit my parents and brother and his family. Got up early to watch the sunrise. I was well worth it. Fantastic. It looed like a giant fire ball in the sky

then off to do some sailing with dad. I really like it

my favorite spot. In the front, feeling all the breeze. I love the wind and water – it seems to wash away any funkness, leaving me very peaceful

just a couple of everyday photos of us

and a quick trip to the beach. I am at peace
