Chinese New Year

this year is going to be all about trying new things...

last night we went to a Buddhist Temple to celebrate the Chinese New Year. The temple is still under construction and it was at night, but what we could see of the exterior was beautiful. Lots of glass, wood beams, water features, and a pretty yet minimal landscaping. The inside prayer room was just as spectacular. It was a large square open space with 50ft ceilings. The walls where white with wood beams and a gleaming bamboo floor. In the center of the room was a 30ft tall Buddha statue.

The service wasn't in English, but we had an English version of the songs so we were able to follow along, at least a little. After the service portion, there was food. Oranges and candy for the new year.

Everyone was extremely nice and welcoming. The monk was a girl and my age - first off, we didn't realize that a monk could be a female and second she made me feel a little bad for myself. She looked so young - her skin was flawless, we thought she was 14 years old!

Overall, it was a great experience and one that we will do again.
