While waiting for the shuttle to pick us up, a nice non-American man (I could tell this by his foreign accent) asked us if we going skiing. He said he had just dropped off his twin boys and all of their gear – they were on the way to Big Sky. Maybe one day we will make it there too. He was impressed by our small gear size – only a snowboard box and 2 bags. He actually helped us with a bag when the bus came along. In true M fashion, M was slightly suspicious of his helpfulness so early in the morning.
Flight was uneventful. About 5 hours.
Rental car shuttle bus picked us up and shuttled us to the rental car area – just like the name implies. Finally we were listed on the Hertz Gold Board! I felt so special, until we got to the car. It was a nice enough car, but since the back seats didn’t fold down the boards were not going to fit. M went back and asked for another car. He said the Hertz guy was very nice and pointed him to a new vehicle. M picked me up in our new little Subaru that smelled like it had just come out of the “the more clean smell I have then the more I cleaned I must be” smell. Oh my! I wasn’t going to say anything, but after we got the boards and bags packed in, we realized that there was no tinting to the windows and no sort of tarp to cover our stuff. Basically we were in a fish bowl asking for our stuff to be borrowed and not returned. So back to the Hertz agent we went. Our third car was perfect – a Saturn Vue. Not too big, not too small – the windows were slightly tinted and all of our stuff fit perfectly. Off to find Rubio’s!
Lunch at Rubio’s. Me a Shrimp Burrito – tons of shrimp, beans, rice, and cheese. Mike – Mango Shrimp Burrito – shrimp, not as many shrimp as mine so I had to share, and a mango salsa (hence the name). M said it was yummy, but perhaps not a repeat
Stopped by West Elm to admire
Stopped for groceries at Whole Foods. I love WF – I know that anything that I pick up with be made with good ingredients. This is not the same as being good for you – as noted/showed by the fabulous bakery items that we picked up
Met Cory, Michelle, and Morgan. Haven’t seen them since Mom’s 50th birthday party. It was good to catch up.
Back to Rubio’s for some take out for the week. We were trying to decide between 5 bean and cheese kids meals or 5 b&c burritos with a side of rice. So we asked the guy how much is a side of rice … $ .50 for a small and $ 1.39 for a large. So as we are trying to decide, the guy says well 2 smalls equal 1 large. Me, and my cheapness, just couldn’t let that one pass by – so I can get 2 smalls for $1.00 or I can get the same amount by buying 1 large for $ 1.39? Yeah, I think I’m going to stick with the small containers. So just as we are finalizing our order, I ask since I’m just going to put the rice in the burrito, how much is it to add rice to the burrito? Oh, that’s free. Hmmmm, I think you can guess what we decided.
Long ride up to the hotel – not much going on. Mike said he say a bald eagle. I didn’t see it, but I believe him.
Always nervous about the location of the room, see experience with the rental car for an example of our luck. Sent Mike in with specific instructions – a quiet room not on the highway side, not near the elevator, ice dispenser, stairwell, or maintenance room. And while you are at it, do you think we could have an entire “wing” to ourselves? Thanks!
Apparently, they had already anticipated all of needs and placed us in Room 303. Two bottles of water and a chocolate chip cookie awaited Mr. Platinum (aka Mike). Actually the room was great – two queen beds, a separate living area with a couch, chair, work station, and a little kitchenette with a mini-frig, microwave, and sink. Perfect for cooling and heating our burritos.
Once in the room, it didn’t take long to use that microwave. Dinner we had a burrito and an EmergenC. About an hour later we were sound asleep.
